This spacious three storey five-bedroom family residence occupying a commanding site above Camps Bay was completely rebuilt in 2007. The lofty vantage point under the Twelve Apostles affords panoramic views from Lions Head and over the full expanse of Camps Bay below. Exceptionally, from the uppermost floor especially, this uninterrupted view extends as far as Llandudno and the headland of Sandy Bay. A central spine of steps divides the property into two with illuminating sky-lights above. The second floor accommodates four bedrooms, including the master suite and two adjoining patio sun terraces reached by full-width French window-style doors. The views from here are magnificent. All bedrooms are en suite while the generously proportioned master consists of a distinctive bathroom and large adjacent walk-in wardrobe area. Dark-stained wood is used throughout the house in contrast to the light beige natural marble tile. The large bathroom is ingeniously divided from the master bedroom by wooden louvre panels that open onto a counter unit; the central mid-section being occupied by the tub. There is also a spacious shower and two large washbasins. An easy chair provides comfortable views outside to the half-width sundeck. A central twin-room separates the master from one of the two other large bedrooms, one facing to the front with adjoining terrace while the other faces the rear. Generous fitted wardrobes are a feature of all the bedrooms. There is also a smaller room dividing these two bedrooms currently used as an office and music practice room. At the back of the residence on this floor is a compact secluded sun-trap lawn. The main living area is on the first floor. The pattern of division along a central step corridor is repeated here as essentially on each side of the main entrance facing to the front are lounges with a kitchen to the rear. To one side is a living-cum-informal dining room (next to the kitchen) centred around a feature gas fireplace. Two sofas and reclining chairs face the white slab stone fireplace surround. These light-coloured furnishings complement the natural beige tile while again the dark-stained furniture wood as upstairs makes an attractive contrast. The proximity of the kitchen creates an ideal entertaining venue (there is also a guest bathroom here). The kitchen has a full-height fridge-freezer (with chilled-water dispenser), generous storage units, dishwasher and electric Defy double oven/grille (and microwave). There is also a large utility room behind the kitchen with washer and dryer and adjoining patio beyond (with basketball hoop and pets area). The main family relaxation lounge of plush full-length sofas is centred around a plasma television. This retreat has a large dresser to one side atop of which are matching Chinese ornamental blue and white vases. Otherwise decoration throughout the home is restrained. Behind this room is an occasional or guest twin en suite bedroom. On the front side of the house through the patio doors is a large terrace with formal dining table with candelabra and gas barbecue/ (Anvil) braai counter station. This half of the property is more sheltered and hence the space lends itself to all styles of entertaining and formality to suit. Steps from this sun terrace lead down to the ground floor swimming pool and sun lounge of wooden decking behind which is a versatile games room and gym (with a pool table and stationary bicycle). To one side of this is a passage leading to a lavatory, utility storage room and double garage and from which steps ascend back up to the living rooms. |
