Looking for the quintessential, jump-out-of-bed and onto-the-beach holiday villa? Well, you’ve found it. As one of the most sought-after locations on the Atlantic coastline, Glen Beach House is a stunner. Built Cape Cod style with the clapboard look that instantly says ‘beach holiday’, and with a pool that’s literally on the rocks, it’s no wonder that this is a popular spot. Views extend the length of Camps Bay beach and up to the Twelve Apostles behind the palm-lined promenade. Looking over the garden and to the right, the relatively undiscovered, and often quieter and more discreet, cove of Glen Beach awaits.
Light and airy and with ample access to the garden or balconies, every view is maximised and plenty of thought put into vantage points. Inviting day beds beg relaxation and the outdoor entertaining area in the garden overlooks the beach and pool, and is even equipped with a fridge and a large barbeque area with a built-in counter for drinks or platters of food. Entertaining is a pleasure, whether you eat around the pool or choose to sit at the custom-built 14-seater table upstairs in the dining room, that has its own balcony overlooking the sea and the beach, or on the partially shaded central wooden balcony overlooking the pool.
With two comfortable lounges (one downstairs and the other upstairs with an adjacent but separate television room), this house is particularly suited to families or couples sharing on holiday. The downstairs lounge, in a relaxing mix of celadon colourings, also has its own plasma screen and satellite and Wi-Fi is available throughout.
A well-equipped and cleverly designed kitchen combines white fixtures with glass, in keeping with the sophisticated beach-house feel. It’s upstairs, leading off the dining room, but is separate from the lounge and deck area.
All four bedrooms are beautifully decorated with quality cotton linen contrasting with jewel coloured and sensuously tactile fabrics and accessories. Ample storage is provided and bathrooms are large, especially in the main suite where an oval bath and double shower add glamour. Floors and cupboards are in bleached wood colours throughout, adding to the beach-house vibe. The two double and two twin bedrooms are downstairs and a fifth bedroom can be created from the ‘leisure room’ upstairs off the wooden balcony.
Air conditioning and underfloor heating is fitted throughout and the rim-flow swimming pool is heated, which is especially lovely for early morning and evening swims when the mountains behind take on a beautiful bluey-pink tinge and the coastline appears to be yours alone. The beach is literally a few steps away, down a path at the side of the house and the hot/cold outdoor shower is handy after beach walks and invigorating swims.
