| Set in the heart of the oldest winemaking region in the Cape and bordering the vineyards of Groot Constantia, this new villa nestles in a secure estate surrounded by indigenous fynbos gardens and ancient oak trees. Peaceful and private, it’s the perfect retreat for families or friends sharing on holiday. The villa’s architectural features maximise natural light and views of its natural setting, but it’s also designed for outdoor summer living. All rooms lead outdoors through sliding doors to the garden and the 15 by 5m (50 by 16ft) saltwater pool, with glorious views of the mountains surrounding the Constantia winelands. The covered and shaded verandah, with its dedicated barbeque area, is ideal for meals shared outdoors, with two tables effortlessly seating twelve, and four loungers invitingly arranged on the pool deck – an easy place to simply watch the birds in the indigenous bush beyond or enjoy a good read. There’s also an invigorating outdoor shower for freshening up after swims. An eight-seater dining table indoors in the open-plan living area provides an alternative for cooler days. The focus of this airy room with its high ceilings, exposed beams and retractable wooden shutters is an open fireplace, for cosy evenings together. A modern, fully fitted kitchen with a central gas hob and separate utility room makes cooking a pleasure. Well equipped and decorated as part of the living area, it’s both a practical and attractive open-plan design. The villa sleeps six luxuriously but another two comfortably. A separate family room with a flatscreen television with Satellite and DVD player is beyond the kitchen including a mini business centre with laptop, phone and WiFi. Beyond are two en-suite bedrooms – one with a view of the pool and the other of the garden. The spacious and airy main en-suite with a king-size bed and generous dressing area is on the other side of the villa near the entrance, giving privacy to families or couples sharing. The room is shuttered throughout and when these are drawn back, it looks directly onto the lush lawn outside, and the bathroom also leads onto the outdoor terrace. There is an additional loft room upstairs with twin beds that can be converted into a double bed. The garage is specifically designed and equipped to provide easy access to the house for physically challenged guests. A Mercedes A170 is available at a nominal fee. There’s a pool cover for families with children. A nature trail leads directly from the garden into the Fynbos beyond. The beaches and beautiful coastal areas are only 15 minutes’ drive away, while the centre of Cape Town is 20 minutes by car. There are three golf courses, horse riding centres and seven wineries on the Constantia wine route – the oldest in South Africa. A selection of restaurants are a short walk away. |
